Meet Sugar

Photobucket
Sugar
Some friends gave us another doe. She is a Registered Saanen. Her registered name is Sugar. She is giving us about a gallon of milk a day right now. She came to us bred to a purebred Saanen and is due in April. She is three years old. She was a little shy at first but is now fitting in nicely with our herd. That brings our goat total to eight goats six does and two bucks. We are hoping that five of our does are bred. The first one is due the last week in January.

Lionheads of Deer Path Farm

Doormat my young female Lionhead

One of the cute little babies
I have been breeding lionhead rabbits. Over the summer they kept getting out or should we say the goats where letting them out by breaking into the hutches to get their grain. Well the male disappeared, in late summer. The mother got out again but we left the top of her cage open. Not paying much mind to what was going on until we found three month old babies in there one day. Seeing how I lost my buck I was hoping one of  them would be a buck and luckily a little gray one is and he has nice long fur.

The Deer Path Duck Flock
After a busy crazy summer with work and searching craigslist for good deals on animals, I am back at least for this post. My duck flock now consists of five hens and one drake the hens where freebies I found on craigslist. They look to be call crosses. They enjoy flying around and fighting with one of the neighbors flock of twenty full sized ducks . We now have eight goats, two bucks and 6 does. Five of the does are bred four of them to proven lamancha stud Jasper. One a saanen  was given to us bred to a registered saanen buck. We bought Alejandro to bring new blood in and so we could raise registered Lamanchas. Jasper is currently being rented by HarlequinFarm.blogspot.com. We also acquired a pair of blue slate heritage breed turkeys. I sold some of my rabbits chickens but I also picked up two delaware hens a breed of chicken I have loved working with.

Shearing and Hoof Trimming

Photobucket
Before
As some of you may know I do some Sheep shearing for fun. It gives me a chance to see other peoples farms and be with animals which I love as well as some pretty interesting stories. Such as getting dragged across the rough rocky ground and where there are not rocks there is mud I prefer to call it mud and not manure and who knows when the sheep where last sheared when you have to use the hoof trimmers to cut the wool and  needless to say you end up looking and smelling like  sweaty sheep. Than  this year I sheared my first angora goats so thought I would show you all some pics.

First it was Warm and Melty Goodness now there's Frosty

Photobucket
The Wonder Of Frosty
Well its been awhile almost three weeks since I have last blogged. The nasty harsh record setting winter we have had here in Connecticut seems to be weakening it's hold. We have had a few days in the fifties and last Saturday Deer Path Farm welcomed its second kid of the spring. A cute little doe Named Frosty out of Susie and Jasper. With the classic little ears a result of her father being a purebred Lamancha.

Welcome S'more

Photobucket
Yesterday Morning I woke up to this when I went to check our doe Treasure
Photobucket
A cute little brown, black, and white doe. She was born on the perfect day as we had a warm spell as it was in the forties and it is supposed to fall back into the single digits tonight. she is half Lamancha and half Toggenburg. We decided to name her S'more on account of her color.
